As we wrap up celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Jet Marketing, I sit here wondering where the time has gone… thinking about how much has changed and what has remained the same. I thought it would be fun to take a look back on how far we’ve come.
It was late summer in 2009, Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” was blasting from the radio, and two ambitious women were about to venture out on a new business endeavor. It was the beginning of Jet and the possibilities seemed endless!
Back then, we used to buy Creative Suite (our design software package) on discs and upload to our computer… Wow. And on top of that, you only got the latest upgrade when you purchased the new version.
These days, with “the Cloud,” we get every new update automatically installed — how great is that! Sharing files between designers has become more fluid and such a timesaver. It seems as if everything now is subscription based, which is sometimes overwhelming when you get your credit card statement each month. But on the other hand, the benefit of time and efficiency is worth it.
Working Remotely Has Gotten Easier
We used to archive our design files on DVDs, making two sets: one for my Chicago office and one for the Fort Collins office. We laugh about it today, but it was the way you did things before “the Cloud.” I can’t tell you how much we love “the Cloud!”
Also, what did we do before Slack? Sure, there were other instant messaging apps, but Slack has provided us with a better way to communicate through different channels and groups, all while keeping the Jet team organized and informed. With Slack, it’s easy to do a quick pow-wow to review a project or check in with each other about workload.
On a Personal Note
Ten years ago, I was living it up in Logan Square (a hip neighborhood in Chicago), going to yoga three times a week, sleeping in on the weekends and staying up late.
Now, I have two small kids, and all that other stuff went out the window. I live in the suburbs, in a house where the noise is often pushing a 10. I wake up early, go to bed early and try to squeeze in some personal wellness time (thanks Jet!), but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
What Hasn’t Changed
Changing with technology and the times is a given, since we’ve got to stay up to date. But holding on to our roots and the value we have for one another, and most of all, our clients — that hasn’t changed. In this world today, that all can fall to the wayside, but we firmly believe in the value of people and understand the base that allows Jet to thrive and grow — internally and externally.
So, thanks for coming on this ride with us. As we always say: we’ll get you there! Now, I’m off to blast Pandora — I’ve queued up Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” because it never gets old!
