I was inspired to write this after my dental hygienist told me about a photo from Eric Pickersgill’s REMOVED series — “an internationally exhibited series in which digital devices are physically taken from participants’ hands before the works are made. This collaborative act reveals the disconnection and altered presence that screen use introduces into daily life.”
His work captures a truth we often avoid – in a world more connected than ever, we are often more apart.
Imagine if all the people in these photos were present — communicating, laughing, collaborating — without the digital distraction.
But Jenn, isn’t this your audience? On one hand, as marketers, we want people engaging with our content through these very screens. On the other bigger hand, we know that real moments, real connections, and real stories hold the most lasting power.
I was reminded of this recently — at the 2025 Colorado Opioid Abatement Conference (COAC), listening to survivor stories that underscored the opposite truth: recovery begins with connection. And in my own life, I’ve seen that being present — really present — can change everything. Whether it’s sitting across from a friend, a client, or a colleague, connection is what makes the work meaningful. It’s what makes us human.
At Jet, we value building meaningful relationships. It’s not just about delivering messages — it’s about understanding people.
Connection drives creativity and trust in every part of our work:
- Weekly meetings build alignment and shared purpose.
- Team strategy sessions spark collaboration and innovation.
- Water cooler/puzzle talks strengthen the social glue that keeps ideas flowing.
Behind every great marketing campaign is a network of connected, empathetic people who understand not only their clients and audiences — but each other.
As we move into the holiday season, I encourage you to renew lost connections, make new ones, and strengthen the ones you already have.
Host one device-free meal. Have one unstructured, agenda-free conversation. Hold one meeting focused solely on listening.
Because the most powerful marketing tool — and the most healing human force — is simple, timeless connection.
