When I saw this photo by Josephine Sittenfeld in my daily New York Times email, it stopped me in my tracks. You know how they say a picture can tell a thousand words? I truly felt that. This little girl and the fleeting magic of summer camp, those eyes looking into the camera – nostalgia rushed over me so intensely. I remember my summers of swimming in a pond on Cape Cod. This photo brought me right back there. The mood, the lighting – I longed to be her again, to be so carefree on a warm summer day.

In today’s digital age, where visual content dominates the marketing landscape, the power of real photography has never been more apparent. In a world saturated with stock images and staged photos, authentic and genuine visuals can set your brand apart. Real photography and video, whether taken by professional photographers or amateurs, have the ability to connect with audiences on a deeper level, evoke emotions, and establish trust.

Authenticity Drives Engagement

Our experience as marketers shows that time and time again, the social posts that get the most interaction are the ones with photos or videos of REAL people. Our efforts often revolve around crafting a compelling narrative that resonates with the target audience. Authentic photos and video can capture the essence of the brand’s values, culture, and mission, helping to build an emotional connection with customers.

In May of this year, we produced a video showcasing a rare total wrist replacement surgery performed by one of our healthcare clients. To date, the video has more than 63,000 views. The client’s enthusiastic response to its success has led them to schedule another video for us to create. It’s a testament to recognizing the worth of their people and the compelling narrative they have to share!

Establishing Trust

Real photography adds a layer of credibility to marketing campaigns. Genuine images of products, services, and behind-the-scenes moments can help build trust with customers. Real and unfiltered visuals can demonstrate transparency, fostering a sense of reliability in the brand’s communication.

Evoking Emotions

Real photography has a unique ability to evoke emotions. Candid shots of people, whether they’re smiling, laughing, or showing vulnerability, can create a powerful connection with the viewer. Emotionally charged images can leave a lasting impression and make your brand more memorable. Whether it’s joy, empathy, or inspiration, real photography and video can communicate these emotions effectively.

While stock images have their place, incorporating real photography and video into your marketing strategy can elevate your brand and leave a lasting impact.

Now I’m off to enjoy the last days of summer. . . hopefully swimming in a pond on the Cape.
